Feb 10 It's finals time for the Saturday competitions, amd we have a remarkable 27 Junior teams (9 Girls, 18 Boys) playing finals. We also have 5 Senior teams who made it. Well done and good luck. Jan 10 We hope everyone had a terrific festive season, and now it's time to get back into tennis. The January newsletter has been published and mailed, and it can also be accessed using the link at the bottom of this page. Note that entries for Saturday Winter competitions and Tennis Vic Pennant are due in early February. Forms can be downloaded by clicking on Seniors, Juniors or Pennant. You must be a financial member to be selected in a team. Night tennis kicks off in the first week of February, except for Thursdays which will start the following week. Well done to Greta and Louise for winning the Mid-Week Ladies Sec 4 Singles flag. There has been a recent change to our court hire arrangements. A key can now be obtained from Langwarrin Newsagency & General Store, 119 Cranbourne Rd (near Long St) - cost $12. Dec 09 Don't forget the presentations to our Club Champions on Saturday 19th, after tennis. Join us for a Christmas drink and a pizza. Oct 09 Construction of the new veranda has begun, after we finally obtained a Building Permit. The area is fenced off, but please be both careful and tolerant while the work is going on. It should be finished by mid-November. The Club Championships are well underway, and many thanks to Peter and Lynn for their outstanding organisation. It's terrific to see so many juniors doing well in the senior events. We were recently notified that the Council selected other applicants over ours for a Sports & Rec grant, which was intended to hep with the resurfacing etc of courts 4 - 6. We intend to proceed with as much as we can over the coming summer holidays, but there's a lot of work to be done between now and then. Sep 09 ....Don't forget that your Membership Fees are now due. All those who pay by 1st October will go into the draw for a free membership.... Several Langy teams had terrific Grand Final wins to finish the Winter season, and plenty more made it into the finals. Congratulations to all, and particularly to our winners: Seniors Winners: Mixed Section 3 - Tracey Euhus, Deanne Davis, Lynne Wood, Brett Kidman, Scott Kidman Mixed Section 5 - Dianne and Gary Murphy, Lynne and Klaud Kucic, Sally and Darryl Sutcliffe Mixed Section 7 - Liz O'Donnell, Sophie Nuttall, Rachael Letty, Brent Bartling, Mark Sage Mens Singles Section 2 - Adrian Moore and Ryan Czarnecki Mens Singles Section 4 - Jamie Brookes, Dave Gibson and Will Carter Runners-up were Mixed Sec 6 (by one game!) and Mens Singles Sec 5.
Juniors Winners: Girls Loretta Thrupp - Kristie Betts, Caley Knox and Kathleen Belsten Girls Section 4 - Alesha Bond, Casey Thomas, Paige Cosnett, Rebecca Allen and Cassie McDermott Runners-up were Girls Secs 2 and 7, and Boys Secs 3, 4, 10 and 12. Here's your opportunity to have your say in how the Club is run, or to volunteer to join the Committee or help the Club in any way you can. The Agenda can be seen here. Also, it's time to be thinking about the Summer saturday season. Entry forms have been mailed out with the newsletter, and can also be downloaded for Seniors and Juniors. Jun 09 Congratulations to the boys pictured below for their recent achievements in tennis with Elisabeth Murdoch College. They reached the the Southern Zone Championships for the Victorian Secondary Schools Sports Association for Intermediate Boys tennis for EMC and became the champions. They then went on to play at State Championships at Boroondara Tennis Centre at Nth. Balwyn. Unfortunately they were not the State Champions but to be state finalists was a massive achievement.
State Finalists (LtoR): Dylan Hebblethwaite, Michael Robertson, Josh Lombardo, Jayden Cox and Simon Lombardo. Apr 09 Well done to our Junior Girls 3 and Junior Boys 8 for their Grand Final wins. Our other finalists all performed very well and only lost narrowly. In the Seniors, Mens Doubles 1 were our flag winners - congratulations. Mixed Sections 3 and 8 both made the Grand Final, but unfortunately had to settle for second place. Note that Frankston Tennis Club will be using six of our courts on the Tuesday and Wednesday after Easter for their Junior Masters tournament. Mar 09 Congratulations and good luck to our teams who have made the Grand Final - Junior Girls Pennant and Sec 3, Boys Pennant and Secs 3, 6, 7 & 8 where two Langy teams will battle it out. In the Seniors, Sec 1 Mens Doubles and Sec 3 Mixed are through to the Grand Final, while Sec 8 Mixed can get there by winning their prelim final this week. It's great to have the new car park in operation. We have written to thank the Council. Feb 09 The Club has donated $500 to the Bushfire Relief Fund, through Myer stores who will match the donation dollar for dollar. Also, Kerry Gardeniers is collecting unwanted tools for distribution in the Buxton area, so please contact Kerry if you can help. You can now see pictures of some of our 2008 Club Champions here. The night tennis competitions have all started, but we can always use extra emergencies. You can register your availability by contacting the organiser - click on Competitions above and follow the Night Tennis link. It's back to tennis now after the holiday break, with a sweltering start to the competition year. Already we need to prepare for the Winter Saturday seasons, and you can download Junior and Senior entry forms. Be sure to submit them by the due date, to enable the teams to be selected and forwarded to the PTA for grading.
